Hamleys

Hamleys is the oldest toy shop in the world and one of the world's best-known retailers of toys. Its flagship store on Regent Street London has more than 50,000 toys and receives around five million visitors per year.   In addition to its store in London, Hamleys has a number of other stores across the UK as well as worldwide.

The business recognised the relationship between business success and the skills of its senior managers and decided to invest in the management and leadership development of a number of its senior managers.  Developing People International were commissioned to prepare and deliver a programme of development that was tailored to meet the specific needs of each manager.

To ensure the specific needs of each manager were met, we developed and delivered a programme that consisted of the following key features:

  • A 360° feedback assessment for each manager at the start of the development programme to identify development priorities.

  • An initial meeting between the Developing People coach, each manager concerned and their line manager to agree a clear set of development objectives and a development plan..

  • A tailored programme of development that consisted of a mix of half day practical training workshops that addressed the development needs common to all managers and one to one coaching sessions for each manager to address their specific individual development needs.

  • The 360° feedback assessment was repeated at the end of the programme to measure change and improvement in each manager.

  • A final review meeting between the coach, line manager and each manager concerned to ensure objectives were met, and set out a plan for continued development.
