When does a Management training Course turn into an Event?
26 Mar 2007Most mangement training courses have an obvious set of learning or development objectives and an agenda approach and structure that aims to deliver learning for the participants within the course that can be applied by the participants back in the work place. As well as or within the course's key learning objectives there are often subsidiary objectives for the participants to derive some "fun or enjoyment" from the course. This is when the training course starts to look and feel more like an "Event". If the objectives are purely or predominantly about fun, enjoyment, motivation or recognition for the participants and if the content of the day just consists of fun activities with no specific learning message behind them then this is more like an Event than a training programme. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against these types of recognition Events and feel that they have place in an Organisation's repertoire of activities. But we should take care not to regard them as learning and development in themselves - unless we bring in relevant learning activities that fit in appropriately with the Event theme. If you would like more information about combining Management training with fun recognition activities and events then please contact us.
