How to combine coaching with management training modules.

27 Jun 2009

Management training and development is often provided to a cohort of managers via a series of modules which are linked together into a broader programme. Recent examples of these sorts of linked modules that we have recently delivered to a cohot of Managers in one organisation are:-
- Management fundamentals.
- Leadership skills.
- People management.
- Personal effectiveness.
- Finance and budgets.
- Quality assurance.
These modules are designed and delivered to a consistent core brief, with agreed objectives and learning outcomes for all of the managers involved. We would aim to ensure that all participants learn at their own pace and that they get to discuss their own particular issues and objectives on the course but inevitably the modules are delivered to a format based on the organisations needs.
We then suppliment this management training with a series of 6 one to one coaching sessions focussed on the needs of each individual which helps them to apply the learning to their specific work and life situation. We space these sessions out after each module and use part of the session to relate back to the core module content and objectives and to help embed the learning in the participants mind and to deal with any real issues or opportunities they may have to embed the learning into their day to day work.
The rest of the coaching sessions are used to allow the coachee to concentrate on other areas of their personal development of their choosing.
This combined approach of group training modules supplimented by one to one coaching sessions ensures that the managers and their organisation get the maximum benefit and value from this work.
