Everyone's on holiday in August - how to make the best of this time.
16 Aug 2006
Research shows that over 50% of workers still take some of their holidays during the month of August. So apart from businesses who directly benefit from this eg travel, Hotels, holiday centres then most of industry and commerce has a slow month. Very little management training or coaching takes place during this month.
The question is what should you in a Service Business plan to do during this quiet month?
Here are a few practical ideas to help you manage this slow time of the year efficiently:-
* lower your expectations about business activity
* reduce your budgeted revenues accordingly
* take time to rest and re-energise for yourself
* do your businesses house keeping - tidy up the Office/works
* plan and prepare for next month's increased business activity - but beware an expectation that it will all come flooding in from 1st September
* re-set your strategy if appropriate
* make contact with those old friends in your network who you haven't spoken to for a long
time
* do some of the detailed planning and preparation for your work in the next quarter
* plan your feedback sessions with your staff and look at the possibilities for their personal devlopment or management training
* encourage your staff to take their holiday's
* and if you are still left at work twiddling your thumbs then take this opportunity to go on holiday yourself!
