Can leadership training make a difference to your bottom line?

09 Feb 2007

It has been recently reported* that telecoms company Genesis Communications has made £2m in cost savings by investing in leadership training.

80 managers and potential managers (20% of the staff) were selected and put through the training which comprised of a 360° feedback, coaching and individual action planning.

The £2m figure is made up of the changes managers made to the business after completing the training. One example is the design and implementation of an induction academy for new sales representatives. The output of which resulted in income generated by the new starters tripling in their first two months when compared with previous new starters.

Another positive outcome saw the staff satisfaction survey rising from 65 per cent to 76 per cent, equating to a relative improvement of over 15 per cent.

Richard Millman, managing director of Genesis is reported as saying “The key was to change the culture, because there was a tendency to think in silos and fall back on autocratically driven management.” “This has shown that whether you are leading a project with one person or 40 people, you need to do so in the ways that’s best for the business”.
