Can anyone make a suitable coaching subject?

Within the spectrum of normal personality and behaviors then the theoretical answer to this question is yes, but there are some key factors that determine a person's suitability for coaching.

Firstly and most importantly is the coachees readiness, motivation and willingness to think about things differently and to want to learn and apply this learning in practice. If they expect the coach to do all of the thinking work and to supply them with a stream of perfect solutions the this is not going to happen.
If they merely expect to use these sessions to unload their issues and to get things off their chest then although this has some benefit it is nit what coaching is ultimately about. It is about a person looking at and thinking about things differently and then ACTING differently as a result of these thoughts.
The personal chemistry between the two parties, coach and coachee is key to establish the right relationship. This is not about friendship (although it could be) but more about trust, empathy, rapport, respect and understanding.
It is also about an open minded response to the coaching process and a recogmtion that it may take time and thought for the lessons to be learned and put into practice - including possible false starts and learning from a mistake.
So is there a coach out there for everyone? Maybe yes in theory – but only if they are WILLING, take responsibility, are able to be honest with themselves and with their coach – and are prepared to search for their answers largely from inside – from their own resources.
