Team Development Case Study - Portsmouth Housing Association

Who are PHA?

  • A Housing Association Group with various care and support businesses operating alongside the core Housing Association business.
  • PHA has now successfully merged with Atlantic and Pavilion Housing Associations to form the First Wessex Housing Association Group.

What did we do for them?

  • Facilitated the effective working of the Executive team to prepare them and the business for their successful merger.
  • Helped them develop their strategy and to get “buy in” from their Board to the merger after one unsuccessful attempt.
  • Supported and challenged the leader and team to keep focused on both the merger and also the effective management of the day to day business throughout this process.
  • Helped steer them through the Housing Corporation regulation process.
  • Coached individual Directors and prepared them for the selection process facing them for new jobs in the bigger Organisation.

What was the impact?

  • Organisations merged successfully
  • New brand and culture developed
  • Key Directors secured leadership roles in new Organisation
  • Housing Corporation signs off merger as the Regulator

Client Feedback

“Developing People’s (DPL) objective input and facilitation skills allowed us to keep together as an Executive team through two stressful mergers –one unsuccessful and eventually a successful one. We would not have been able to keep it all going without DPL’s balanced external view and coaching support to us as individuals. They have helped 4 of us to secure new Executive jobs in the merged Organisation and I look forward to them helping us with the development and performance of our new Executive team.” John Butler PHA Chief Executive.
